What is ayurveda

Ayurvedic medicine is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent and a form of alternative medicine. The oldest known ayurvedic texts are the Suśruta Saṃhitā and the Charaka Saṃhitā. These Classical Sanskrit encyclopedias of medicine are among the foundational and formally compiled works of ayurveda.

Ayurveda (eye-yer-VAY-duh) is a 5,000 year old Indian holistic healing science that literally translates to “knowledge of life.” Frankly, it’s brilliant and I don’t know why it’s taken us this long to rediscover it. Ayuveda focuses on achieving balance and optimum health of the whole individual including the physical body, the mind, and the spirit. Through nutrition, yoga/exercise, meditation, pranayama, and herbs, Ayurveda uses allfive senses as a vehicle to bring the body back to it’s balanced state.
